What Firstfile collects about you, and what it does with it. Last updated 22 October 2026.

Who we are

Firstfile is a UK service that turns the public Companies House register into lists of new companies for businesses that sell to them. For the details below, Firstfile is the controller.

If you join the waitlist

We keep your email address, what you sell, the area you tell us and whether you asked for a sample. We use them to tell you when sign-up opens and, if you asked, to send a sample of leads. That's our legitimate interest in replying to a request you made. We keep them until sign-up opens and for six months after, then delete them unless you've become a customer.

If you're a customer

We keep your email address to sign you in and send the emails you've switched on, and your feeds, notes and lead statuses to run the service. We keep them while your account is open.

The companies we list

Firstfile lists limited companies and LLPs from the public register: company name, number, registered office, SIC codes and incorporation date, plus a website, a generic company email address (like info@) and a phone number where the company publishes them.

We also show the names of each company's current directors and owners (persons with significant control), with their role, appointment date and the nature of their control, all from the public Companies House register. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests: helping businesses offer services to new companies. We don't collect dates of birth, home addresses or personal email addresses, and we never send names to our AI provider. Anyone can remove a company, or only the names on it, at firstfile.co.uk/opt-out, and it's removed from every customer's feed at once.

Who else sees your data

Stripe takes customers' payments and holds their card details; we never see a full card number. Our email provider (Postmark) sends our emails. If you allow analytics cookies on this site, Google Analytics records which pages you visit and how you found us, so we can improve the site; if you don't, it gets anonymous page counts without cookies. You can change your choice with "Cookie settings" at the foot of any page. Our AI provider processes public company information to classify companies; no personal data about you is sent to it. We don't sell your data.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, or for it to be corrected or deleted, by replying to any email from us. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
